A DOC’S TIPS ON SLIMMING
A DOC’S TIPS ON SLIMMING
The article is mainly an interview session with Dr. Arthur Agatston, a cardiologist and South Beach Diet developer, regarding diet, exercise and few references to his book titled, “The South Beach Diet Supercharged”. Based on his observations, the doctor terms Miami as the nation’s fattest city. The excerpts from the interview are summed up below.
The doctor at the outset, rules out low-carb and low-fat diets, recommending the sacrosanct combination of healthy and nutritious carbohydrates with high fiber, vegetables, whole fruits and body-friendly fats. He also strongly avers that losing fat through strenuous interval exercises is better than steady and routine exercises, to get rid of the ugly belly fat to start with. Slow and routine exercises help you lose weight in a phased manner whereas quick bouts of heavy exercises help you lose fats easily, where sugar is manageable and insulin levels improve. He recommends 20 minutes of rigorous exercises daily for those who are pressed for time. He also quotes from a study he made on three categories of women comprising a control group, steady state exercisers and third doing interval training, i.e. short term trainees. The third group lost fat easily especially the unwelcome fat around the belly and their insulin levels also showed good improvement. He goes o to add that belly fat is different from other fats in the body and gets stored on account of high insulin levels. Once you have lost belly fat, you need to continue exercising to maintain or else they get back as soon as they go. According to him each ethnic group has its own way of responding to foods and exercises owing to their genes and has to be dealt with differently.
Follow the tips of the doctor if you are intent on losing weight.
